July 9, 2017

Three-day Yakshotsava concludes this evening

Mysuru: “A separate Academy should be formed to promote and develop Yakshagana,” opined journalist B. Ganapathi, Chief Editor of ‘Chittara’ Kannada Film Monthly.

He was speaking at a function organised by Innovative-Mysuru in association with the Department of Kannada and Culture at Jaganmohan Palace here on Friday to mark the launch of three-day Yakshotsava.

Ganapathi observed that Yakshagana should be preserved as the art has been developed methodically and scientifically. He said that setting up an Academy would give more thrust for Yakshagana to spread its wings across the world.

Bellipadi Yaksha Samskruti Trust President Dr. B. Satish Rai is seen beating the drum to mark the launch of three-day Yakshotsava at Jaganmohan Palace here on Friday as film journalist B. Ganapathi, Yakshagana scholar and Innovative President G.S. Bhatta, Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Chennappa and Journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar look on.

He added that Yakshagana artistes have carved a niche for themselves which should be identified and encouraged. However, he pointed out that a few prominent platforms deny permission for Yakshagana claiming that such programmes would consume a lot of time which need to be introspected.
