Yediyurappa launches Economic Census in State

November 7, 2019

Bengaluru: Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa (BSY) launched the seventh edition of Economic Census at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru yesterday.

Following the launch, the Chief Minister himself was the first to be covered by the enumerators.

Speaking after the launch, BSY said that the exercise would serve as a basis for  the formulation of various schemes by the Central and State Governments. Pointing out that this would also help in understanding different businesses and their workforce, he said that for the first time, the census is being conducted  through a mobile app.

The mobile app developed by the Centre, works both online and offline. When online, the data recorded is sent to a server, whereas offline data is stored locally and then transferred once connected to a network.

The census is being conducted by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation along with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics of the State Government. The last Economic census was conducted in 2014, while the first economic census was conducted way back in 1977.
