Mysuru: Mysuru is the yoga capital of the world. The District Administration is making all efforts to live up to this reputation by trying to create a Guinness Record.
Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep is leaving no stone unturned to achieve the objective. He had called for a meeting of various stakeholders at his office this morning, already the fourth one.
The aim is to gather 50,000 yoga enthusiasts in one platform to perform yoga asanas and break the record set in 2015 at Janpath in New Delhi, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day.
“On that day 35,895 people had participated and we want to beat that record in the third International Yoga Day by involving at least 50,000 people,” said Tourism Department Deputy Director H.P. Janardhan.
When Star of Mysore brought to his notice that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be performing yoga on June 21, the third International Yoga Day, along with 55,000 people at Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan in Lucknow, he said that though they had heard about it they were not sure of the number.
He said that he would bring it to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner and see that more people participate to really create the Guinness World Record. Janardhan added that they had already got in touch with the Guinness people who would be arriving on that day to record the feat.
Motivation campaign
The district administration has planned motivation campaigns so that more people could register their names and help create the record. “Once the campaign begins we expect the yoga patashalas, schools, colleges, institutions and the general public to come forward and register in large numbers,” said Janardhan.
There is one more record that Mysuru is planning to break. In 2014 a yoga chain was formed in Tamil Nadu with 3,849 yoga performers.
“This year we want to break the record with 5,001 people participating in the Yoga chain doing a particular asana holding hands. The particular yoga asana will be decided by the Department of Ayush,” he said.
Meanwhile, at the meeting in the DC office here this morning, officials from BEML, DFRL, CFTRI, BSNL, India Post, voluntary organisations like Rotary, Round Table, CREDAI, and BAI participated.
It was decided to have 67 blocks. In the Palace premises 10,000 people would perform. The rest would be spread over from Hardinge Circle to Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, from Kote Anjaneya temple to KR Circle, from KR Circle to stretch of Devaraj Urs Road and from KR Circle to Ayurveda Circle on Sayyaji Rao Road.
A private agency, which has recorded a video for the occasion in both Kannada and English, will play it to motivate the participants.
District Ayush Officer Dr. Seethalakshmi, Nehru Yuva Kendra Coordinator M. N. Nataraj, Mysuru Travels Association President B. S. Prashanth, RiiiT’s S.V. Venkatesh and others participated in the meeting.
