June 24, 2018

K.R. Nagar: The K.R. Nagar Police have arrested a youth for allegedly assaulting a probationary woman Forest Guard under the influence of alcohol near Chunchanakatte Falls in K.R. Nagar on Friday evening. The accused has been identified as Sunil from Salekoppalu Village.

According to the Police, Sunil came to the waterfalls along with his friend Pratap and picked up a fight with Chandana, a probationary Deputy Range Forest Officer. Sunil wanted to enter the turbulent water and was warned by Chandana not to venture in to the water as it is dangerous.

She told him that recently, a scientist from CFTRI got washed away in front of his family. She also told him that the District Administration had banned entry to the water falls. Sunil, however, did not heed to her words and ignored Chandana’s repeated warnings. He told Chandana that he was a local and knows the dangers.

Not stopping at this, Sunil clicked Chandana’s photos and this was objected to by the officer. As Sunil did not refrain from clicking photos, Chandana pulled him by his collars and slapped him. Enraged by this, Sunil assaulted Chandana and abused her using foul words.

On seeing Sunil assaulting the Forest Officer, public too beat up Sunil black and blue and handed him over to the Police. The video of the incident went viral in various social networking platforms. A case has been registered against Sunil for obstructing a public servant from performing duties. Sunil has been handed over to judicial custody and the Police are on the lookout for his accomplice Pratap.
