Mysuru: Mysuru South Police have arrested a youth on charges of hiring an autorickshaw, assaulting the driver and later fleeing with the auto and money.
The accused has been identified as 28-year-old Umesh and the Police are on a look out for his accomplice.
On Oct. 10, Umesh and his accomplice hired a auto to Hosahundi. When the auto was proceeding towards the destination, Umesh and his accomplice asked the driver to stop near Yeligehundi, where they assaulted the auto driver, snatched Rs. 8,500 from him and fled away with the auto.
Based on the complaint from the auto driver, a case was registered at Mysuru South Police Station. Following instructions from the Superintendent of Police (SP) N. Vishnuvardhana, Additional SP Nagesh and Dy.SP Kareem Rawtar guided Mysuru South Inspector Dr. M.L. Shekar, Sub-Inspector K.A. Chandru and staff Mahesh, Sunil Kumar, Manju and Prakash in the nabbing operation.
Police sources said that accused Umesh has criminal antecedents, as he has four pending cases of robbery and extortion registered at Mysore South Police Station, three cases in Nanjangud Police Station, two cases in Varuna Police Station and one case each in Jayapura, Hullahalli and Hunsur Rural Police Stations.
