He was attending last rites of his friend’s mother

Siddapura (Kodagu): A youth, who took part in the last rites of his friend’s mother and went to take bath in River Cauvery was drowned.

The incident took place at Guhya village and the deceased has been identified as Rajendra (33), a resident of Pallakkere.

One Manjunath, who resides at a private farm near Kakkattukadu of Guhya village, lost his mother and Rajendra had gone to participate in the last rites. After the last rites were performed, Rajendra and a few of his friends went to the nearby Cauvery River for a bath. But when Rajendra was swimming, he got exhausted and was reportedly drowned and his friends, who saw him drowning, tried to rescue him  but in vain.

Police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel, with the help of local residents, traced the body of Rajendra and were successful in fishing out the body on Sunday morning. The body was shifted to a hospital where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members.

A case has been registered at Siddapura Police Station.
