Bengaluru: With an aim of imparting knowledge on governance from institutions of governance, a delegation of 22 members, including 4 members from programme team of the Youth for Governance Fellowship programme at Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM), visited Vidhana Soudha on Sept. 6.
They received a comprehensive orientation and a guided tour of the Legislative Assembly Hall and Legislative Council Hall, accompanied by a guide. They gained a detailed understanding of Legislative proceedings, the functioning of Legislative committees, and the architecture of Legislative halls. Candidates also had the opportunity to interact with the secretary to the Speaker, providing them with valuable insights into the law-making process.
Later, the visitors interacted with Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, the Karnataka State Development Commissioner. During the one-hour interaction, she shared insights into various aspects of governance, urban development and State Government development initiatives.
To maintain the enthusiasm of the students for participating in governance, she engaged them in an interactive activity designed to delve deeper into their areas of interest. She suggested specific areas for them to work on, such as women and child protection, mining and geology, and environmental laws in order to gain a hands-on and holistic learning experience.
Dr. Shalini also encouraged the fellows to visit other districts for a multicultural and diverse understanding of governance.
