Youth, who held cop by collar, let off on station bail!

February 23, 2018

Mysuru: Even as the incident of MLA N.A. Haris’ son Mohammad Nalapad assaulting a youth in a Bengaluru pub is fresh in public memory, an incident of an influential person holding the collar of a Police Constable and abusing him with filthy words has come to light in Mysuru.

And surprisingly, the accused was let off on Station Bail while any other person would have been sent to jail for obstructing a public servant from performing his duties.

The accused here is 21-year-old Karthik, son of a politician who is the President of a Co-operative Bank in Mysuru. And the constable is G. Nitish, attached to the Ashokapuram Police Station. Nitish was on his beat near a Family Court at Jayanagar on Feb. 21, when scooter-borne youths were found riding in a reckless manner.

Police said that while Rocky, a rowdy-sheeter was riding the scooter, Karthik was riding pillion. Karthik had stretched his arms wide, on the busy road, where girls were passing by. Seeing this, Nitish stopped the scooter and questioned Karthik for his indecent behaviour.

At this point, Karthik took Nitish to task for questioning him and also held his collar. “You don’t know who I am,” said Karthik warning Nitish not to ‘insult’ him.  Even as the passers-by gathered, Karthik went on to abuse Nitish with expletives.

Even when Nitish tried to pull out his cell phone to capture Karthik and Rocky on the camera, the latter tried to snatch the phone.

Nitish immediately informed Garuda Police who arrived on the spot. By then, Rocky and Karthik had fled the spot. The Police later tracked down Karthik and brought him to the Police Station. No sooner Karthik, who owned the scooter, was brought to Police Station, his father’s friends arrived and reportedly exerted pressure on the Investigating Officer to let off Karthik.

Though an FIR was filed against the accused charging them with restraining a government servant from performing his duties under Section 353 of IPC, the accused was subsequently released on Station Bail.
