Youth injured in elephant attack

February 24, 2020

H.D. Kote: A 26-year-old youth has suffered serious injuries when a wild elephant attacked him near a lake at Kabini Backwaters last evening.

The injured youth, who is undergoing treatment at K.R. Hospital in Mysuru, is Shiva, son of Krishnan and a resident of Balle tribal hamlet in the taluk.

Yesterday at about 5 pm, Shiva was returning after fishing at the lake, when the elephant attacked him. Though Shiva began to run away from the elephant, the elephant chased him, caught hold of him and threw him to the ground thus injuring Shiva seriously.

Meanwhile, a few villagers, who heard Shiva’s cries, rushed to his help and managed to chase away the elephant. They later summoned a 108 ambulance and shifted him to a private hospital in Saragur, where Shiva was provided first-aid and later shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru.

A case has been registered at Beechanahalli Police Station.
