April 25, 2018

Mysuru:  The 7th Additional District and Sessions Court in city has sentenced a 29-year-old youth to 12 years imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a mentally challenged girl besides imposing a fine of Rs.20,000 on him.

The accused, who has been sentenced, has been identified as Dodda Anka, a labourer and a resident of Anaganahalli in Jayapura hobli here.

The accused on May 2016, had come to his sister’s house in Nadanahalli from where he lured the 19-year-old mentally challenged girl who was playing with other children and brought her to Tandavapura.

Later he took her near the Kabini Canal where he allegedly raped her and fled from  the spot.

As the girl could not find her way back, she was wandering on the road until a person known to her spotted her and informed her family members.

As the girl was exhausted, she revealed the incident to her parents after a few days following which the parents lodged a complaint at Nazarbad Police Station in this regard.

Nazarbad Police, who had registered a case, arrested Dodda Anka and had submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the Court.

Judge C. Chandrashekar, who heard the arguments from both sides, found the accused guilty of the crime and pronounced the judgment.

Public Prosecutor Mahanthappa, argued for the    Government.
