Youth swimming in Balamuri goes missing

Police rescue drowning tourists

Srirangapatna: A youth, who was swimming in Cauvery River at Balamuri, has gone missing and two others, who had come with him and drowning in the River, were rescued by the alert KRS Police personnel yesterday evening.

The deceased youth is Anjal (22), son of Abdul Hussain and a resident of Noorani Layout in Mandya town.

Yesterday, Abdul Hussain and his family members had come to Balamuri for a picnic during which Anjal ventured into the River for a swim.

When Anjal was not seen in the River, his two relatives jumped into the River in search of him but began to drown and screamed for help.

KRS Police staff Renukumar, who was on duty at the tourist spot, with the help of a cloth, rescued one of the drowning persons while the tourists rescued another.

KRS Sub-Inspector Ramesh Karkikatte, who reached the spot, summoned expert swimmers and divers and a search operation has been launched to trace the missing youth.
