Mysuru: Urging action against corrupt Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) Engineers & contractor, demanding to rectify mistake in second standard Kannada textbook and to rectify the snag of the online registration portal of Kattada Karmikara Kalyana Mandali, various organisations staged separate protests at many places in yesterday.
Paduvarahalli Srigandha Yuvakara Sangha: Alleging corruption of crores of rupees pertaining to the works taken up to plug leakages between 2012 and 2015, about 35 members of Paduvarahalli Srigandha Yuvakara Sangha staged a protest in front of VVWW in Yadavagiri here.
The protesters, who alleged that during 2012 to 2015, Rs. 3.42 crore worth works to stop water leakages were given to only one contractor, said that there was no rain at that time and the city was reeling under severe scarcity of water. They said that when there was no water to supply, how can there be leakages and alleged that the works were taken up just to loot taxpayers money.
The protesters also questioned that when there are many contractors at VVWW, why only one contractor was given the works continuously and added that there was a huge racket behind it and urged the Government to initiate probe besides taking action against corrupt officials in VVWW.
Ramakrishna, Dyavappanayaka, Madesh, Prabhakar, Rajesh and others were present.
Bahujan Vidyarthi Sangha (BVS): Urging the Government to recall second standard Kannada textbooks where it has been wrongly mentioned that it was Sir M. Visvesvaraya who had built KRS Dam, when it should have been Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, about 50 persons under the banner of Bahujan Vidyarthi Sangha staged a protest in front of Crawford Hall.
The protesters said that a lesson in second standard Kannada textbook states that it was Sir M. Visvesvaraya, who was the Dewan, during the erstwhile ruler of Mysuru Kingdom Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, who had built the KRS Dam and added that it was Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar who built the dam by selling his jewellery to fund for the construction of the dam.
They said that such mistakes was giving wrong information to the students and urged the State Government to recall the textbooks, rectify the mistake and issue new textbooks to the students.
BVS District Organiser Sosale Siddaraju, City Organiser Ganesh Murthy, Historian P.V. Nanjaraja Urs, Karnataka Ursu Mandali President Nandeesh Urs, littérateur Bannur K. Raju, Ramegowda, Bhanu Mohan, Shabbir Mustafa of SDPI and others were present.
Karnataka Rajya Kattada mathu Ethara Nirmana Karmikara Federation: About 50 members of the Federation staged a protest in front of the DC’s office here urging the Kattada Karmikara Kalyana Mandali to rectify the online registration portal, which has developed snag.
The protesters alleged that the web portal through which they have to register their names had developed a snag and they are struggling since many days to register their names, which has denied their earnings.
They alleged that if 150 people go to register their names only four people were getting registered after trying many times, which is not only wasting their time but also a loss to them. Stating that they cannot leave their work and stand all day to register their names, they urged for speedy rectification of the web portal.
They also alleged that though the Chief Minister had announced schemes, which gives security to construction workers in the Budget, it has not been implemented till date besides demanding release of funds for pension, medical and other schemes meant for them and to provide scholarships from first standard itself, as done in Goa.
Federation District Committee President N.K. Balaji Rao, Gen. Secretary H.M. Basavaiah, Manjunath and others were present.
