Mysuru: Youths are drifting away from jobs that require hard work, which is not a healthy trend, said renowned orator and humourist Prof. M. Krishnegowda.

He was speaking after inaugurating a free super-speciality health check-up, eye screening and blood donation camp organised to mark the birthday of Dr. Shushrutha Gowda in city recently.

The health camp was jointly organised by V.R. Trust, Dr. Shushrutha Gowda Sneha Balaga, Dr. Rajesh Eye Hospital and Jeevadhara Blood Bank.

“Young people should cultivate the attitude of willing to undertake all kinds of work. With the objective of strengthening the country’s human resources through skill development, the Central Government has introduced several schemes. However, people’s interest in making use of these opportunities has declined. This is not a positive trend. Every individual has an important role to play in nation-building,” he said.

Expressing concerns over the growing commercialisation of medical and healthcare sector, Prof. Krishnegowda said there is a need for a serious public discussion and introspection on the issue.

Hunsur MLA G.D. Harish Gowda said doctors with a genuine spirit of service are becoming rare. However, Dr. Shushrutha Gowda has emerged as a true friend of the poor and has dedicated himself to social service. His commitment is an example for everyone, he added.

“Education and healthcare have become increasingly expensive today. Even a routine medical treatment costs thousands of rupees. At a time like this, Dr. Shushrutha Gowda’s people-centric service to society is truly commendable and a matter of pride,” the MLA said.

Former MLA and City BJP President L. Nagendra and other dignitaries were present.

More than 500 people took part and were benefited from the free camp.
