Mysuru: The Kalyani atop the iconic Chamundi Hill in city will be rejuvenated and the initial cleaning will be done by Yuva Brigade at 6.30 am tomorrow (May 27). Over 75 volunteers from the Yuva Brigade will take part in the cleaning of the Kalyani that is near the Devikere. The Kalyani is in a dilapidated state and full of weeds all over with little or no boundary walls.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, S. Chandrashekhar, District Convenor of  Yuva Brigade said that volunteers will assemble at the Kalyani at 6.30 am and begin the cleaning activity.

“The Kalyani is a historic one and has a lot of significance. So far, no attempts have been made to restore this important water body. We will clean the weeds and restore the stones of the boundary wall,” he said and added, “We will do whatever possible in our capacity.”

The Brigade also has plans to paint the outer surface of the Kalyani. Once restored, the Kalyani will be able to hold water and will be a tourist attraction apart from the Chamundeshwari Temple, Nandi Statue, View Points and the Devikere.

It may be mentioned here that over 500 volunteers from the Yuva Brigade, supported by some other volunteers, cleaned up River Cauvery in April this year and over 60 tonnes of garbage was cleared.
