   SHYAM SUNDAR CROWNED 'MR. MYSORE UNIVERSITY' 2010-11

Mysore, Sept. 10- S. S. Shyam Sundar showing poise and elegance presented himself well and impressed all with his strong chest muscles, triceps and biceps to clinch the coveted 'Mr. Mysore University 2010-11' title in the Mysore University Inter-collegiate Best Physique competition held at the University Gymnasium Hall here on Thursday.

Shyam Sundar won the title for the second time in a row and has also been performing well in the All-India Inter-University Best Physique Competitions representing Mysore University. He topped in the 85kg category to qualify for the title round.

K. M. Sandesh (upto 60kg- JSS College, Ooty Road), S. Pradeep (upto 65kg- Basudeva Somani College, Mysore), S. Neeraj Kumar (upto 70kg- St. Philomena's College), Pradeep Nayak (upto 75kg- TTL College), Mansoor Ayaz (upto 80kg- MES First Grade College), S. S. Shyam Sundar (Upto 85kg-A.D.Billi Gowda FGC), Nayaz Pasha (Upto 90kg-MES College, Mysore) topped in the respective categories and qualified for the title round.

The team championship was won by Baudeva Somani College, Mysore with 11 points. St. Philomena's College, Mysore finished second with 9 points.

The results: Upto 60 kg: 1. K. M. Sandesh; 2. R. Bharath (Basudeva Somani College); 3. N. S. Abhilash (SBRR Mahajana FGC).

Upto 65 kg: 1. S. Pradeep; 2. Md. Ismail (JSS FGC, Nanjangud); 3. Syed Faraz Ahamed (MES College).

Upto 70 kg: 1. S. Neeraj Kumar; 2. G. Abhishek (St. Philomena's College); 3. D. Lankesh (NIE College).

Upto 75 kg: 1. Pradeep Nayak; 2. V. Lakshmisha (Vidya-vardhaka FGC); 3. K. Shivshankar (St. Philomena's College).

Upto 80 kg: 1.Nansoor Ayaz; 2. S. Imran (D. Bhnumiah's College); 3. K. M. Anand Nayak (Manasagangothri).

Upto 85 kg: 1. S. S. Shyam Sundar ; 2. D. Naveen Kumar (Basudeva Somani College); 3. K. M. Jithin (Manasagangothri).

Upto 90 kg: 1. Nayaz Pasha.

   GIRISH KOUSHIK IN JOINT LEAD

Mysore, Sept. 10- Former world under-10 champion and Mysore lad Girish A. Koushik scored a win over fellow-Statemate Antonio Viani D'Cunha and shared the lead with the top seeded local boy Sahaj Grover at seven points after eight rounds of the National Sub-Junior Chess held at the Kulachi Hansraj Model School, Delhi on Thursday.

In the girls' section, Tamil Nadu's P. V. Nandhidhaa maintained her lead and reached 7.5 points after drawing with Orissa's Sunyasakta Satpathy.

   SOMANI COLLEGE TOPS IN WEIGHT-LIFTING

Mysore, Sept. 10- City's Basudeva Somani College weight-lifters performed well in the Mysore University Inter-Collegiate 'Weight-Lifting Competitions for Men 2010-11' held at the University Gymnasium Hall here on Friday and helped their College win the Team champion-ship title with 28 points. Shanthi College, Malavalli, came second with 14 points. Toppers of various categories are:

56 kg (53+63=116): R. Bharath (Basudeva Somani College); 62 kg (55+75=130) S. Manu (Cava College); 69 kg (50+ 60=110) R. Kiran Kumar (Basudeva Som-ani College); 77 kg (68+78= 146): Shahbuddin (Basudeva Somani College); 85 kg (62+85=147): B. Mahesh (Shanthi College, Malavalli); 94 kg: B. Sandeep and +105 kg: M. C. Mohan Kumar both of Basudeva Somani College.

Team championship: Basu-deva Somani College-28 points.

   TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY IN SWIMMING

Mysore, Sept. 10- In the Mysore City Inter-Collegiate Swimming Tournaments organised by Department of Physical Education, held at the University Swimming Pool recently, students of Vijaya Vittala PU College won the following prizes:

Women's category: Preethi Prasad- 50 mts free style (second), 50 mts &100 mts breast stroke and 50 mts back stroke (third). Men's category: A.H. Akash- 50 mts, 100mts, 200 mts back stroke (first), 50 mts butterfly & 200 mts free style (second) and 100 mts breast stroke & free style (third); H.S. Vipul- 200 mts free style (first), 50 mts & 100 mts breast stroke and 100 mts & 400 mts free style (second). B.S. Goutham- 200 mts butterfly (second), 200 mts free style & breast stroke (third).

C.S. Pruthvi with A.H. Akash, H.S. Vipul and B.S. Goutham- 4 x 100 mts free style relay (first).

Team Championship Swimming Trophy for Men was conferred for their overall performance in the tournament.

   CM RELEASES RS. 27 CR. FOR OVERALL DEVELOPMENT OF KR HOSPITAL

Grants of Rs. 209 cr. proposed

Mysore, Sept. 10 (BRS)- Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has released ` 27 crore for the overall development of KR Hospital here, thus keeping his earlier assurance of funds.

Dr. S.P. Yoganna, Liaison Officer, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, told SOM that the related order would be issued in a couple of days. A proposal had been submitted on Aug. 12 to the Chief Minister to immediately release ` 41.55 cr.

Yeddyurappa, who took part in a function in the Platinum Jubilees Auditorium on JK Grounds after inaugurating the Jayadeva Cardiology Centre at KR Hospital, had announced that he would release ` 27 crore within a week for the overall development of the hospital.

Out of the amount released, Rs. 8.5 crore will be spent for upgrading 10 operation theatres, Rs. 6 cr. for improving MICU, ICU, emerging casualty ward, `2 crore for x-ray division, Rs. 1.5 cr. for new 'U' shaped cots (1050), beds, bedsheets, stools, lockers and mosquito nets, Rs. 1.2 cr for optholmology department, ` 40 lakh for diagnostics in Neurology Department, Rs. 9.6 cr. for civil works (Outpatient Department, repairs to leaking roofs of the new surgical block), have been proposed.

Borewells, sumps, overhead tanks, plumbing, underground drainage, electrical wiring, repairs to lifts and generators will also be included. Rs. 5.7 crore will be spent on equipping PKTB and Cheluvamba hospitals.

Setting up of an MRI Unit at a cost of ` 6 crore with private participation has been considered. It has also been decided to raise ` 15 cr. from entrepreneurs as donation along with voluntary organisations and other donors.

A comprehensive proposal for transforming KR, PKTB, Cheluvamba Hospitals and MMC into hi-tech institutions at a cost of Rs. 209 crore has also been submitted to the government.
