Bengaluru: Nearly 11,200 Primary and Government PU teachers will be appointed this year. And, all processes are in place to recruit an additional 8,000 by April 2018, said Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, he said a notification has been issued to recruit 10,000 teachers. Recruitment process for 1,200 lecturers has also been started.

The government has given approval to appoint 18,000 teachers and till May next year, the posts would be filled in stages. Permission had been given to recruit teachers for vacant posts in Aided Primary Schools and PU Colleges, he added.

The decision has been taken to implement Basavaraj Horatti Report on Pay Review for teachers. Efforts have also been made to see that the teachers through a biometric process get their salaries on 5th of every month.

Thinking has also gone into levying one per cent cess for repairing Govt. school buildings just like the cess being collected for libraries in the State, he said.

The State Government has not closed any Government Schools. Even if there is only one student, teachers have been appointed and the school is being run. Due to shortage of teachers, 728 rural schools that were not functioning have been reopened, said Sait.

On Nov. 1, under Ksheera Bhagya scheme on an experimental basis, milk will be distributed in packets to students in Raichur and Mysuru Districts.
