Mysuru: Mysuru city which had to be satisfied with the top cleanest city tag in the medium category in the country, is all set to add 12 new e-Toilets shortly.

During the Swachh Survekshan survey conducted last year, 15 new e-toilets had been installed. The public, tourists and the locals are using this facility since the past one year. As nearly 60 to 70 people use each toilet every day, it was decided to install them in other places in city.

The main aim of installing more e-toilets is to see that in the next Swachh Survekshan the city truly becomes open-defecation-free which in turn will help in improving the rankings.

Totally there are 15 e-toilets in city including three e-toilets on Devaraj Urs Road, two near Apollo Hospital, two near Sham Studio and one each near Sangam Theatre, Makkaji Chowk, Mysuru Zoo and Chamundipuarm.

New technology: Electronic toilets or e-toilet is one of the major innovations in public hygiene, health and sanitation sector. This type of toilet can be used by inserting Re.One, two, five or ten rupee coins. If there is shortage of a particular coin, any one of the denominations can be used to open the door.

However, if a person is already using the toilet, then the door will not open at any cost. As the door is programmed with a sensor, it will not open once a person is inside. Another advantage is the moment a person comes out after using the toilet, it will be cleaned instantaneously and hence, a person who uses it next can do it without a feeling of disgust.

Each e-toilet will cost Rs.7,000 and it is built in a 3 ft.X6 ft. area. It is installed conveniently close to the footpaths. A survey has already been conducted by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Drainage Board to see where e-toilets could be installed.

In the next one week e-toilets will be ready and by the end of the next month, all 12 of them will be installed for public use.

It was found that the 15 e-toilets installed last year was not only being used by the public but also by the tourists visiting the city every day. Hence, we found the necessity for a few more e-toilets and therefore, 12 new e-toilets are being installed after identifying proper places. Since cleanliness has been given a lot of importance, people are using it without any hesitation.
