12 years, work on parking lot at Town Hall remains incomplete

January 31, 2023

Sir,

The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has proposed innovative precast multi-level parking lot near KSRTC Suburban Bus Stand, which seems quixotic (Star of Mysore dated Dec. 18, 2022).

It is shameful, as the work on building a parking lot at Town Hall started in 2011 is yet to be completed and only God knows how many decades more it needs to complete! When we are unable (or incapable?) to complete one project for 12 years, why go for second one?

MCC is irresponsible in spen-ding tax-payers’ money. Residents are fed up with the way the civic body functions. City roads — without exception — are in worst condition and garbage clearance is an eternal problem. One of the roads in K.C. Nagar has not been asphalted since the past 16 years, despite taxes being paid by the residents promptly. Innumerable complaints to the MLA has not yielded any results. Less said the better about the Corporator.

Instead of wasting public money on new projects, MCC should concentrate on completing existing ones lying incomplete for long. They should prioritise road repairs than taking up fancy projects and waste public money.

The incomplete Town Hall parking lot work has not only resulted in escalation of project cost, but also made an eyesore.
