National Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme on Mar. 3

Mysore/Mysuru: To ensure the success of National Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme on Mar. 3, Mysuru District Administration in association with the Department of Health and Family Welfare has decided to set up mobile transit booths near the Toll Plazas of the National Highway passing through Mysuru district.

The authorities will be setting up transit booths on Mysuru-Nanjangud and Mysuru-T. Narasipur National Highways to enable mothers, who are travelling, to get their children below 5 years immunised with polio drops.

Similar booths will also be set up at Mysuru Sub-Urban Bus Stand, City Bus Stand, City Railway Station, Private Bus Stand, Chamundi Hill, Mysore Palace, Zoo and other tourist locations.

This year, the District Administration and the Department of Health and Family Welfare has set a target to administer polio drops to a total of 2,31,354 children below the age of 5 years. While a total of 88,844 children are identified in Mysuru City, 27,112 children will be administered the drops in Mysuru Rural. Similarly, 19,080 children will be immunised in T. Narasipur, 23,813 in Nanjangud, 19,309 in H.D. Kote, 18,286 in Hunsur, 17,878 in Periyapatna and 17,032 in K.R. Nagar.

1,612 polio booths in Mysuru District

A total of 1,612 pulse polio vaccination booths will be set up in the district. While 330 booths will be set up in Mysuru City, a total of 147 booths will be opened in Mysuru Rural. Similarly, T. Narasipur will have 181 booths, Nanjangud 216 booths, H.D. Kote 198 booths, Hunsur 208 booths, Periyapatna 156 and K.R. Nagar 176. The Department has appointed a total of 6,564 health workers and volunteers in the district to administer the pulse polio drops to children.

The pulse polio drive is being held for four days but the drops will be administered in the special booths only on Mar. 3 as the volunteers will visit individual houses on Mar. 4, 5 and 6 to give the drops for those children who could not visit the booths. The volunteers will apply indelible ink on the left little finger to ensure the children are vaccinated. In case the houses are locked, the volunteers will enquire with the neighbours about the presence of the children below 5 years in the house and collect the contact number of the parents to enquire if their children were immunised or not.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, District Reproductive Child Health (RCH) Officer Dr. M.S. Jayanth said the department had aimed to achieve 100 per cent results by setting up booths near the Toll Plazas on National Highways, Bus Stands and such other public places.
