Mysore/Mysuru: As part of the 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel that is also promoted as ‘National Unity Day’, a ‘Run for Unity’ — a marathon dedicated to Sardar Patel — was organised by the 3 Karnataka Girls Battalion NCC, Mysuru, this morning.
Over 325 Cadets and 23 NCC Officers from Maharani’s College, JSS Polytechnic College for Women, St. Joseph’s College, JSS S&TU College, Marimallappa’s High School, Good Shepherd Convent, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Cauvery School, DMS School, St. Francis School and Rotary Midtown School participated in the marathon which commenced at 3 KAR NCC Battalion Unit, Ramaswamy Circle in city.
The National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is observed every year on Oct. 31, on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who is also known as the ‘Iron Man of India’. Narendra Modi-led Government has been observing Patel’s birth anniversary as ‘Ekta Diwas’ or National Unity Day since 2014.
The marathon passed through Ramaswamy Circle, Krishnaraja Boulevard Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, RTO Circle, JLB Road before culminating at the starting point.
Commanding Officer in-Charge of 3 KAR NCC Battalion Col. Manoj Kumar Mishra led the marathon and also administered the oath to the Cadets.
Major K. Vijayalakshmi and other officers were present on the occasion.
