3rd Ajith Memorial State-level Inter-School Karate Championship : Mahabodhi emerges overall champions

August 4, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru: Mahabodhi School in city hosted the 3rd Ajith Memorial State-level Inter-School Karate Championship-2025 at its premises yesterday. This event brought together young karatekas from across the State, uniting them in the true spirit of martial arts — discipline, courage, focus, and sportsmanship. The school also won the overall championship with karatekas performing exceedingly well in both kumite and kata competitions.

Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by Social Welfare and District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa. In his speech, he highlighted that karate was not merely about fighting, but a powerful self-defence mechanism that instils discipline, confidence and mental strength in students.

Students showcased impressive kata and kumite (fighting) performances in his presence, following which he distributed prizes to the winners after inaugurating the championship.

More than just a tournament, this championship is a heartfelt tribute to late Master Ajith, a beloved student of Mahabodhi School. Born on January 24, 1994, in the small village of Liktsey in Ladakh, Ajith joined Mahabodhi as a child and was known for his cheerful spirit, unwavering discipline and deep love for karate and sports. Sadly, on Aug. 23, 2008, Ajith passed away due to health complications.

The event was enriched spiritually by the presence of Venerable Bhikkhu Sobhana Bhanteji, Director of Mahabodhi Maitri Mandala, Mysuru and Venerable Bhikkhu Panya Bodhi Bhanteji, Assistant Monk                 Incharge of Mahabodhi.

Jikmet Wangdus Jyothi, Member of the Karnataka State Minority Commission and CEO of Mahabodhi Maitri Mandala, S.T. Javaregowda, DDPI of Mysuru, Basavaraju, BEO of South Zone Mysuru, Sensei Sudeep T. Cyriac, National Representative of JKS Shotojuku India, Sensei C.K. Vijayan, President of JKS Shotojuku India, Sensei S. Sunil Kumar, President of Mysuru Karate Association and Sensei Bharathi Anand, Secretary of Mysuru Karate Association were present on the occasion.
