Mysuru: In a green initiative aimed at enhancing the city’s aesthetics, D. Devaraj Urs Road Traders Association has launched a programme to place potted plants in front of shops and commercial establishments along the busy D.D. Urs Road in Mysuru’s Central Business District (CBD).
Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif formally launched the initiative by watering a plant pot on the road on June 15.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner lauded the Association for contributing to the city’s efforts to increase green cover. He said, the placement of potted plants in front of commercial establishments would not only beautify the area but also help keep the surroundings clean.
Noting that the initiative could be extended to other commercial areas of the city, Shaikh Tanveer Asif said that discussions would be held with traders on roads such as Kalidasa Road in V.V. Mohalla. The Commissioner also announced plans to construct 12 public toilets in busy localities, including near the CADA office on Sayyaji Rao Road.
Stating that the city already has 88 public toilets, he said the additional facilities would be properly maintained. He added that the MCC Budget has also proposed the construction of 15 new public toilets. D. Devaraj Urs Road Traders Association President Veerabhadrappa said that 440 plant pots would be placed on both sides of the road over the next few days.
