51 candidates file nomination papers in Mysuru District

40 nominations filed on Monday alone

Mysore/Mysuru: With just three days to go for the deadline for filing of nomination papers (Apr.20), a total of 51 candidates have filed their nomi-nation papers in the district as on Monday for the May 10 Assembly polls, with the maximum number of nomination papers (40) filed yesterday.

The deadline for filing of nomination papers, which began on Apr.13 soon after the Election Commission issued the Poll Notification, is Apr. 20.

Yesterday, the district saw filing of as many as 40 nomination papers from candidates belonging to different parties for the 11 Assembly segments of the district.

Those who filed their nomination papers yesterday, which was considered  an auspicious day, included Housing Minister V. Somanna from Varuna Constituency, which also saw filing of nominations by Samajwadi Janata Party (Karnataka) candidate K. Nagesh Nayaka, Gurulingaiah of New Indian Congress and Arun Linga of Kannada Desha Party.

Minister Somanna presented his nomination papers from Varuna in the presence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Somanna would file his nomination papers from his second seat — Chamarajanagar —  tomorrow (Apr.19).

NR Constituency: The candidates who filed their nomination papers on Monday were S. Satish  (Sandesh Swamy) of BJP, V. Giridhar (BJP rebel) as independent candidate and Vinod M. Chacko of Republican Party of India (Karnataka).

K.R. Constituency: M.K. Somashekar of Congress, A.S. Satish of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and  M. Lingaraju of Indian Movement Party.

Chamaraja: L. Nagendra of BJP, D.P.K. Ramesh of Karnataka Rashtra Samiti (KRS) and M. Panchalingu of Country Citizen Party.

Chamundeshwari: G.T. Devegowda of JD(S), Mavinahalli Siddegowda of Congress, Mehul J. Patel of Samajwadi Janata Party (Karnataka), S. Harish of Uttama Prajaakeeya Party, Kiran Nagesh Kalyani of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and B. Prakash as independent candidate.

The other prominent candidates who filed their nomination papers yesterday included JD(S) candidate M. Ashwin Kumar, BJP candidate Dr. M. Revanna and  AAP candidate Sosale M. Siddaraju  in T. Narasipur, Darshan Dhruvanarayan of Congress in Nanjangud,  Anil Chikkamadu of Congress and C. Jayaprakash of JD(S) in H.D. Kote, D. Ravishankar of Congress and Hosahalli T. Venkatesh of BJP in K.R.Nagar, K. Venkatesh of Congress and Rajashekar Doddanna of AAP in Periyapatna and H.P. Manjunath of Congress, Thimmabhovi of KRS party and P.S. Yediyurappa, Beeresh and Umesh as Independent candidates in Hunsur.

The filing of nomination papers will go on till Apr. 20, following which the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on Apr. 21.
