Hunsur: Over 594 voters boycotted the election at Billenahosalli – Chandanagiri polling booth number 159, dominated by tribals in Hunsur taluk accusing the failure of the Government to take up development works in their village.

The villagers had threatened of a poll boycott and even held protest last week demanding enough drinking water, good roads and other basic facilities. A team of officials, led by Assistant Commissioner, Tahsildar and others, had visited the village and made efforts to convince the villagers after promising to look into their demands after LS polls.

Refusing to yield to the officials’ request, the villagers continued their strike and boycotted polls.

Tiplapur villagers too boycott polls: Villagers of Tiplapur in Kallahalli Gram Panchayat (GP) limits in the taluk also boycotted polls for a few hours from 7 am to 10 am demanding basic facilities for their village. However, officials visited the village and convinced them to vote after promising to look into their demands after the elections.

Voting delayed: Voting was delayed by more than an hour at Ballenahalli in Hunsur taluk owing to technical snag in the EVM. Polling which stopped after some electors exercised their votes at around 7.30 am resumed only at 9.30 am after the officials repaired the EVM.

State JD(S) President votes at Booth No.112: Local MLA and State JD(S) President A.H. Vishwanath exercised his franchise at polling booth number 112 at Karigowda Street in Hunsur town. Former MLA H.P. Manjunath and his family members cast their votes at Harangi Colony School polling booth in the town.

Hunsur City Municipal Council Commissioner Vani V. Alva welcomed the first voter with flowers at the Sakhi Booth in the town.
