62nd Heritage Music Festival at 8th Cross Ganesha Pandal from Sept. 18 to 30

Mysuru, the cultural capital of Karnataka, is resonant with the music of great maestros. Sri Prasanna Vidya Ganapathi Mandali Charitable (SPVGMC) Trust, Mysuru, has  been playing a crucial role in preserving the continuity of this resonance by organising music concerts during Ganesha festival since over six decades at 8th Cross Ganesha Pandal in VV Mohalla.

All the maestros of Karnatak music, right from Chembai, T.N. Krishnan, K.V. Narayanaswamy, S. Ramanathan, S. Rajam, T.R. Mahalingam, Lalgudi Jayaraman, Paroor Gopalakrishnan, D.K. Jayaraman, T.N. Sheshagopalan, Madhurai Mani Iyer, R.K. Srikanthan, Umayalapuram Sivaraman, Vellore Ramabhadran, Palghat Raghu to youngsters like T.M. Krishna, Chitraveena N. Ravikiran have performed here umpteen number of times. Even the maestros of Hindustani music like N. Rajam, Hariprasad Chourasia, Gangubai Hangal, Rajeev Taranath have performed at this venue and they consider it a privilege to perform at this pandal.

SPVGMC Trust, which believes in training and educating the listeners, has also organised ‘Learning Sessions’ tutored by great maestros like S. Rajam, P.S. Narayanaswamy, Chitraveena N. Ravikiran, T.N. Sheshagopalan and such others. Highly enlightening and educative ‘Lecture Demonstrations’ of stalwarts like Umayalapuram Sivaraman, T.N. Krishnan, T.N. Sheshagopalan, Mannargudi Eswaran, have also been organised for the listeners.

SPVGMC Trust has been playing the vital role of a cultural ambassador in carrying Karnatak music to the masses. This year the Trust is celebrating its 62nd anniversary by organising Heritage Music Festival at 8th Cross in V.V. Mohalla in association with Kannada and Culture Department from Sept. 18 to 30.

Mysuru, Sept. 15- Like every year, the first day (Sept. 18) of the Heritage Music Festival begins with the auspicious Nadaswara recital to be presented by Vid. Murthy Kodiyala accompanied by Vid. Keshava Mohan on violin, Vid. A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. Sharath Koushik on ghata at 6.45 pm.

Inauguration

Sept. 19: Vid.Chitraveena  N.  Ravikiran will inaugurate the 62nd Heritage Music Festival at 6 pm. SPVGMC Trust President and Industrialist Dr. M. Jagannath Shenoy will preside. Patron and former MLA Vasu will be present on the occasion along with Vice-President  T.S. Venugopal; Secretary C.R. Himamshu; Treasurer R. Gururaj; Trustees Shylaja, Amaresh Das, M.K. Sridhar, Vasanth and C. Cheluvaraju.

The inauguration will be followed by vocal recital by Vid. N. Chitraveena Ravikiran. He will be accompanied by Vidu. Gayathri on violin, Vid. Mannargudi Eshwaran on mridanga and Vid. S. Ramanujam on ghata at 6.45 pm.

Sept. 20: Ganesha Purana Vaachana by V. Mahima Kashyap and Vyakhyana by Dr. Jyothi Shankar at 5.30 pm. This will be followed by vocal duet by Vid. Sheshachari – Vidwan Raghavachari (Hyderabad Brothers). They will be accompanied by Vid. H.N. Bhaskar on violin, Vid. Mannargudi Eshwaran on mridanga and Vid. Giridhar Udupa on ghata at 6.45 pm.

Sept. 21- Gopi Geethe (Samskrutha) Vaachana by Dr. Sanathkumar Somayaji and Vyakhyana by Narayana Desai at 5.30 pm. Vocal recital will be presented by Vid. T. M. Krishna, accompanied by Vid.  Trivandrum Sampath on violin, Vidu. Ranjani Venkatesh on mridanga and Vidu. Sukanya Ramgopal on ghata at 6.45 pm.

Sept. 22: Kalidasana Raghuvamsha Vaachana by Dr. Sanathkumar Somayaji  and Vyakhyana by Narayana Desai at 5.30 pm. Nadaswara-Violin Jugalbandi will be presented by Vid. N.R. Nemmara Kannan, Vid. N.R. Ananda Brahma and Vid. Mysore M. Nagaraj. They will be accompanied by Vid. Anantha R. Krishna on mridanga and Vid. Amruth on khanjira at 6.45 pm.

Sept. 23: Rajashekara Vilasa Vaachana by Dhanya and Vyakhyana by Morabada Mallikarjuna at 5.30 pm. Vocal  recital will be presented by Vid. Vishnudev Nambodari accompanied by Vid. Karthik Nagaraj on violin, Vid. V.V. Ramanamurthy on mridanga and Vid. Amruth on khanjira at 6.45 pm.

Sept. 24: Sri Satyanarayanaswamy puja will be held at 9 am. Gokarna Mahima Darshana Vachana by Radha Krishna Swaroopa of Hassan and Vyakhyana by Sowmyashree Srikanta of Tiptur at 5.30 pm. This will be followed by vocal recital by Vidu. Aruna Sairam accompanied by Vidu. H.M. Smitha on violin, Vid. J. Vaidyanathan on mridanga and Vid. Giridhar Udupa on ghata at 6.45 pm.

Sept. 25: Bharatesha Vaibhava Vaachana by Vidu. Vasantha Venkatesh and Vyakhyana by A. Niranjan at 5.30 pm. Flute Jugalbandi will be presented by Vid. Shashank Subramanya and Pandit Rakesh Chaurasia accompanied by Vid. Giridar Udupa on ghata and Pt. Ojus on tabla at 6.45 pm.

Sept.26: Laya Vadya will be presented by Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy and troupe at 5.30 pm. Hindustani vocal recital will be presented by Vid. Venkatesh Kumar, accompanied by Vid. Ravindra Katoti on harmonium and Vid. Keshava Joshi on tabla at 6.45 pm.

Sept. 27: Ramayana Darshanam Vaachana by Vidu. Shubha Raghavendra and Vyakhyana by Dr. Jyothi Shankar at 5.30 pm. This will be followed by Yakshagana presentation by Keremane Shivananda Hegde and troupe at 6.45 pm.

Sept. 28: Kanaka Janaki solo Tala-Maddale presentation by Divakar Hegde of Mysuru (Akashvani), Hinnele: Bhagavatharu – Anantha Hegde, Maddale – Anantha Padmanabha, at 5.30 pm.

Mysore Brothers  Vid. Mysore Nagaraj and Vid. Dr. Mysore Manjunath will present a violin duet accompanied by Vid. Umayalapuram  K. Sivaraman on mridanga and Vid. Guruprasanna on khanjira at 6.45 pm. 

Sept.29: Rangageethegalu will be presented by Janardhan (Jenni) and troupe at 5.30 pm. This will be followed by vocal recital by Vid. Bharath Sundar accompanied by Vid. H.N. Bhaskar on violin, Vid. Umayalapuram K. Sivaraman  on  mridanga and Vid. Karthik on ghata at 6.45 pm.

Sept. 30: Sri Ganapathy and Pavamana Homa by Challakere Brothers at 8 am and Poornahuti at 12 noon.
