Tennis is a global sport and Mysuru has been producing talented tennis players from time to time who have gone on to represent the country in different levels. One such player who has made his mark in the National and International level is city men’s tennis player S.D. Prajwal Dev. Prajwal, taking part in the Uganda F2 Futures $15,000 ITF Men’s Tennis Tournament at Uganda from May 7 to 13, performed well and reached the quarter-finals in the Men’s Singles event. He lost to the top-seed Ivan Nedelko (Russia) 1-6, 4-6. He will also be taking part in the Uganda F3 Futures ITF $15,000 Men’s Tennis Tournament which begins from May 14. He is our ‘Star This Week.’
Prajwal Dev, ranked 1355, had a good run in the F2 Uganda Futures tournament. Prajwal beat Goran Markovic (Serbia) 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 in the first round and in the second round beat Christoffer Solberg of Sweden 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. In the First leg of the Futures held at Uganda, Prajwal Dev in the men’s singles event beat Boris Aguma (Uga) 6-1, 6-1 in the first round. In the pre-quarterfinals he beat India’s Jayesh Pungliya 6-4, 6-1.
In the quarter-finals, Ivan Nedelko, the top-seeded Russian beat Prajwal Dev 6-1, 7-5. Teaming up with fellow Mysorean C. Vasisht, Prajwal Dev entered the semi-finals in the men’s Doubles event. In the semi-finals, Prajwal Dev and C. Vasisht lost to Kaza Vinayak Sarma and M. Goran Markovic 3-6, 5-7.
In the quarter-finals, Vasisht and Prajwal Dev beat Lorenzo Bocchi and Tommaso Gabrieli (Ita) 7-6 (7), 6-1. In the pre-quarterfinals, the duo beat Anton Chekhov (Rus) & Aaron Cortes Alcaras (Esp) 6-3, 6-4.
Prajwal Dev will be playing in the F3 Futures $15,000 ITF event in Uganda from May 14, and he is in the main draw in the men’s singles event. Prajwal has been performing consistently in the International circuit and has been improving his ranking.
Prajwal Dev, 21-year-old, a product of the Mysore Tennis Club, Mysuru, is presently ranked No.27 in the men’s section in the country and ranked No.2 in the State.
Prajwal intends to work hard and climb up the ladder in the men’s section in the National and International level. Encouraged by his parents, this lad who has a good all-round game, has all the talent in him to achieve his goal in the near future.
