Interaction with achiever at Mysuru Art Gallery

June 8, 2018

Mysuru: Mysuru Art Gallery, as part of its Sadakarondige Samvada-29, has organised an interaction with Nissar Ahmed, a thermocol artist and expert in mirror writing, at the Gallery premises on Ramanuja Road in city on June 9 at 11 am.

M.N. Latha Mohan, President, Sneha Sinchana Trust and Kittur Rani Chennamma Award recipient, will be the chief guest. The special invitees are senior artist Syed Munnavar Hussain and art teacher Manohar Lokesh.

Also, an expo of thermocol art works created by Nissar Ahmed will be on display at the Gallery on June 9 and 10 from 10 am to 6 pm, according to a press release from the Gallery President L. Shivalingappa.

Profile

Nissar Ahmed’s hobby of thermocol carving started from the alphabets! Nissar gave shapes of alphabets out of waste thermocol instead of buying chart for his kids to practice alphabets and in later days, he found it interesting and challenging to carve anything and everything he looks at.

Nissar, who owns a tailoring shop ‘Feminine Creation’ on D.D. Urs Road, was forced to quit his studies while he was in VII std., and he started working as a fruit seller, worked in garages, bakeries, fruit godowns and tailoring shops, as his father Faqir Ahmed was the lone bread-winner for a family of 12.

The 67-year-old, who is still under medication for epilepsy, finds it difficult to even write at times as his hands turn numb, but his love for art kept him determined to fulfil his ambitions.

He also has passion for ‘Mirror Writing’ — He can do so in English, Kannada and Hindi languages as well.
