More than 30 sheep run over by train

Mandya: At least 30 sheep were killed when the Mysuru-bound Tipu Express ran over them near Ummadahalli gate on the outskirts of Mandya on Saturday.

Shepherd Kumar, 35, of M. Hosahalli in the taluk, too sustained injuries in the incident and was rushed to a hospital in Mysuru.

Kumar was herding his flock of sheep at about 4.30 pm, when the Mysuru-bound Tipu Express ran over the sheep that were crossing over to the other side of the track, it is learnt.

The train stopped soon after the incident and the train moved from the spot about half an hour later, after all the dead sheep were removed from the track.

Railway, Revenue, Police and Animal Husbandry Department officials visited the spot.
