A unique Bharatanatyam performance by M.S. Keerthana and Spoorthi S. Rao was organised at Vijaya Vittala PU College under the aegis of its Fine Arts Club.
The Fine Arts Club was inaugurated by Vidwan H. L. Shivashankaraswamy, Senior Staff Artiste, Akashavani, Mysuru, at the college auditorium recently.
After seeking the blessings of Vighnanivaraka Ganapathi, they tuned in to Naata Raaga – khanda chapu taala. The song composed by Purandaradasa describing the incident of Ravana whose penance to conquer the world without seeking the blessings of Vinayaka went in vain were well presented with good expressions.
Next was famous “Natanam Aadinar,” the composition of Gopalakrishna Bharati that depicted the richness of unique dance form ‘Padam’ set in Vasanta Raaga and Khanda Ata Taala, Nataraja, the God of cosmic dance who performed the graceful Tandava dance at the “Kanaka Sabhe” of Chidambaram.
The distinct conclusive dance form involving “Shollukattu” with various steps and movements were well portrayed in the Tillana composed by Ramanad Srinivasa Iyengar tuned in Kaanda Raaga, Roopaka Taala.
The repetitions of Pallavi with good padavinyasa rhythm in charanas was synchronously presented by both dancers with swift movements, excellent foot work and rhythm.
Both Keerthana and Spoorthi have accomplished in the field of Bharatanatyam with achievement in both Junior and Senior Grade examinations conducted by Karnataka Examination Board.
Keerthana, daughter of mridanga Vidwan H.L. Shivashankaraswamy and M.V. Mamatha, is training under Guru Dr. Kripa Phadke. She has learnt classical vocal from Vidushi Dr. R.N. Srilatha, Sugama Sangeetha from Vidushi Rekha Venkatesh and Gamaka from Vid. Vi. Kru. Ramachandra.
Spoorthy, daughter of Sudarshan Rao and Poojya Sudarshan, is learning Bharatanatyam from Dr. Kripa Phadke and has also made her debut with Rangapravesham.
