“Purandara Namana” at Ganabharathi on July 6

Mysuru: Ganabharathi in association with SPVGMC Trust has organised a unique programme “Purandara Namana” on July 6 at 6 pm at Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar.

This programme is conceptualised and directed by Vid. R. K. Shriramkumar. The team consists of the following acclaimed artistes — Vidu. Amrutha Murali and Vid. Ramakrishnanmurthy. They will be accompanied by  Vidu. Charulatha Ramanujam on violin, Vid. Arun Prakash on mridanga and Vid. Anirudh Atreya on khanjira.

R.K. Shriramkumar  hails from the Rudrapatna family of musicians from Karnataka and is the grandson of legendary violinist R. K. Venkatarama Shastri and grand-nephew of Sangeetha Kalanidhi R.K. Srikantan.  He is also trained in vocal music under Vid. D. K. Jayaraman and in violin under the guidance of V. V. Subrahmanyam. He has the fortune and credit of accompanying most of the stalwarts.

Amrutha Murali belongs to a family of connoisseurs of music. Her exceptional musical instincts have been well-nurtured by her parents and she has had the good fortune of learning vocal music from great gurus Vid. late K.R. Kedaranathan, Vidu. Meera Kedaranathan and Vid.  Rama Ravi. She is currently under the tutelage of Vid. P.S.Narayanaswamy. She also trains under Vidu. T. Rukmini for violin playing.

Ramakrishnanmurthy  began his Karnatak music training from Padma Kutty in Irvine in 1997. In 2001, he began to take advanced lessons from veteran violin artiste Delhi P. Sunder Rajan. He has also spent brief periods of time learning from Vairamangalam Lakshminarayana, C.R. Vaidyanathan, Vaikom Jayachandran and Chengleput Ranganathan. He is currently under the tutelage of R.K. Shriramkumar.
