Weekend concerts to mark birth centenary of JC Wadiyar

Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha has organised a special concert on July 28 (Saturday) at 6 pm to celebrate the birth centenary year of Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, who was a multifaceted Music Composer and an Art Patron.

Befittingly the centenary year is celebrated with a musical feature titled Mysuru Asthana Vaggeya Vaibhava. The feature is conceived and presented by Dr. R.N.Srilatha with support from Shailaja Sriram Bhat, Smitha Srikiran and Chaitrika; Sheela Venkatesh  on vocal while Veena Suresh will accompany on violin, Radhesh on mridanga and S.Manjunath on ghata.

Dr. Srilatha has prepared a unique musical feature comprising 20th century Vaggeyakara compositions of Mysuru Asthana to portray the glory of development of music. She is an academician as well as a performer. She was the Principal and Professor of Vocal Music (Karnatak) at University College of Fine Arts, University of Mysore. She is the performing for the last 45 years.

She holds a Doctorate in Music for her thesis ‘Aspects of Manodharma in Karnatak Music’. She belongs to a family of traditional musicians of Rudrapatnam.

Karnataka Kalasri Dr.Srilatha is the first lady to get a Doctorate in Karnatak music in Karnataka.She was given the Karnataka Sangeetha Natak Academy award recently.

On July 29 (Sunday) at 5.30 pm, Vasudha Ravi from Chennai will present a vocal concert being accompanied on by Apoorva Krishna on violin, Mysore Vadiraj on mridanga and Bhagyalakshmi Krishna on morching. The endowment programme Smt. Kamalamma & Sri Gopalashetty Memorial Concert is sponsored by A. Shankar Chetty & Sons, Jewellers, Mysuru.

Vasudha Ravi, a prominent young vocalist in the field of Karnatic music, has been learning for over 20 years from Dr. Manjula Sriram, a retired Lecturer from The Music Academy, Chennai. She also had the guidance of Sangeetha Vidwan late A. Sundaresan for a brief while.

A dual post graduate — Music (MA Music) & Human Resources (PDM-HR), she is an  “A” Grade artiste of All India Radio, Chennai; has performed at the Aakashvani Sangeeth Sammelan, Trivandrum.

She has alos worked on musical productions with Ilayaraja and Rajkumar Bharathi Musica Sacra International Music Festival, Makartoberdorf, Germany.  She has performed Karnatak vocal with the Beverian Youth Jazz Band – Lades Jugend Jazz Orchestra of Germany, 2016.

Vasudha has presented many thematic concerts such as Sri Rama Vaibhavam, Bhadrachala Ramadasu Keerthana, “Annamacharya,” “Krishna Leela Tharanga – compositions of Narayana Theerthar.”
