Woman arrested for stealing purses atop Chamundi Hill

Five purses, Rs. 4,080 cash recovered

Mysuru:  K.R. Police, have arrested a 68-year-old woman on charges of stealing purses from women bus commuters at Chamundi Hill Bus Stand on Wednesday and have recovered five purses and Rs. 4,080 cash from her.

The accused is Jayamma, a resident of Gayathripuram in city.

As Wednesday was a holiday for Valmiki Jayanti, there was a rush to the hill temple and Jayamma in a bid to steal purses was waiting at the hill top bus stand. At about 9.30 am, Police personnel Subramani, who was on duty observed Jayamma boarding and alighting from a bus several times. When he went near, Jayamma tried to escape from the spot. Sensing something fishy, Jayamma was taken into custody and on enquiry, she spilled the beans.

Jayamma, told the Police that she had stolen a few purses from women commuters following which the Police arrested her besides registering a case.
