Company asked to pay Rs. 1.50 lakh for damaging water pipe

December 22, 2018

Mysuru:  The Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) officials have issued a notice to a private company for damaging the Sluice Valve of a water pipe that led to huge wastage of water on KRS Road. The company has been asked to cough up Rs.1.50 lakh as fine and damage caused to property.

It may be recalled here that on the morning of Dec. 18, an instant giant fountain of about 30 ft. sprang up from a damaged main water supply pipe on KRS Road, attracting a large crowd. Gallons of precious water flowed into a nearby big drain.

Taking steps to plug the damage, the Vani Vilas Water Works workers realised that a private company, ‘Dee Musketeers Private Limited’ on KRS Road near Gokulam, had carried out excavation works with earth movers and had broken the 150mm Sluice Valve of a pipe that supplied water from Belagola Pumping Station. It is learnt that the earth mover was hired by the private person to work on his land.  The damaged valve has now been replaced with a new one.

Officials of Vani Vilas Water Works have now issued a notice to the private company asking it to pay Rs. 1.50 lakh as fine and damage caused to property. The notice stated that the company had not sought permission from the Vani Vilas Water Works before carrying out excavation works.

As per rules, permission from the Mysuru City Corporation that governs Vani Vilas Water Works is mandatory to carry out excavation works in the area as many water pipes pass underground. The notice further stated that legal action will be taken if the amount is not paid.
