Hockey Coorg scored a convincing 4-1 win over Hockey Hassan while Hockey Mysore edged out Hockey Shivamogga 2-1 and entered the finals in the Hockey Mysore Invitation Cup 2018 Inter-District Sate-level Men’s Hockey Tournament conducted by Hockey Mysore at the University Grounds here on Saturday.

Hockey Coorg dominated the proceedings against Hockey Hassan from the start and got off to a good start when their forward Mani scored a excellent field goal in the 4th minute. Hassan equalised through a penalty corner in the 11th minute. Both the teams were level 1-1 at half-time. Ponnanna scored off a penalty corner in the 41st minute to give Coorg the lead in the second half. The lead was further increased through two excellent field goals by forward Sommanna in the 54th & 56th minutes of the game. Hockey Coorg won by a 4-1 margin and set up a title clash with Hockey Mysore.

Narrow win for Hockey Mysore

Hockey Mysore scored a narrow 2-1 win over Hockey Shivamogga in the second semi-final. Mysore went into the lead in the 14th minute when Ponnanna converted a penalty corner in the 14th minute of the game.  Muddappa increased the lead in the 18th minute with a field goal. Shivamogga came back strongly to reduce the margin in the 39th minute when Vignesh converted a penalty corner. Mysore held on to the lead until the final whistle and entered the final with a 2-1 win.

Third place match: Hockey Hassan beat Shivamogga

In the match held for third place this morning, Hockey Hassan beat Hockey Shivamogga 4-2. While third place winner took home a cash prize of Rs.30,000 and a trophy, the fourth place winner bagged Rs.20,000 cash and a trophy.

The Final Clash between Hockey Mysore and Hockey Coorg will be held at 3.30 pm today (Dec.23). The winner will walk away with Rs.1 lakh prize money and the runner-up will be awarded Rs.50,000 along with a trophy each.
