Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy: Strong come-back by Tamil Nadu

January 3, 2019

Helped by some good bowling by left-arm spinner S. Mohan Prasath (five for 21) and some gritty batting by S. Radhakrishnan (61 n.o., 8×4, 1×6), Tamil Nadu made a strong come-back into the game by bowling out hosts Karnataka for 120 in 66.2 overs, and in their second innings, had scored 179 for five in 57 overs, to be ahead by 153-runs at close of play on the second-day of the four-day Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy (2018-19) Round VIII-Elite Group A & B played at the SDNR Wadiyar Grounds here yesterday.

Earlier, Karnataka resuming on Wednesday morning at 94 for three, lost the wicket of Kushaal Wadhwani (10) to medium-pacer Ajith Kumar (115 for four). Wickets fell in a heap after that and with only an addition of five runs, Karnataka lost the remaining six-wickets to some inept batting by their batsman, to be bowled out for 120-runs. Karnataka gained a slender lead of 26-runs. Left-arm spinner S. Mohan Prasath had a dream run by scalping five for 21 runs (15.2-9-21-5) and was well supported by medium-pacer T. Ajith Kumar who took three for 35.

In their second innings, Tamil Nadu fared better, and their openers Aditya Barooah (29) and K, Mukunth (34, 6×4) added 58-runs for the opening wicket. At close S. Radakrishnan (61 n.o.) was at the crease along with skipper S. Swaminathan (3 n.o.).

Tamil Nadu are ahead by 153-runs and Karnataka needs to take early wickets on the third day morning to make a come-back into the game which is interestingly poised.
