Mysuru: The Slum Dwellers Adalat organised by the District Administration at the Institution of Engineers Hall on JLB Road in city this morning, saw slum residents pouring out their grievances before the authorities.

The Adalat was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar. While some slum dwellers complained of poor quality of JNNURM houses built by Karnataka Slum Developed Board, some others alleged that middlemen were playing havoc in the allotment of houses under various housing schemes such as Ambedkar Awas Yojana, PM Awas Yojana etc.

A few others complained of dumping of all sorts of wastes, including animal wastes around JNNURM houses in Roopanagar, Bharathnagar, Ambedkar Nagar and others areas.

Mangalagowri of Dhwani Mahila Okkoota alleged that wastes, debris and other trash were being dumped around residential places in Roopanagar and surrounding areas, which has been causing huge problems for nearby residents.

The DC directed the authorities to look into the matter and take appropriate measures for ending the menace.

G. Krishna, President of Dalita Abhivruddhi Sangha claimed that Pourakarmikas attached to the MCC were working three hours more than the stipulated working hours and demanded overtime payment to the Pourakarmikas.

He also demanded toilet facility for women Pourakarmikas at duty attendance points.

The DC said that plans were afoot to introduce mobile toilets and the District Administration was working out plans for addressing Pourakarmika issues.

Anand, a resident of Koppalu, alleged that a liquor shop had come up on the land belonging to Slum Development Board and urged the authorities to evacuate the liquor shop.

R. Pooja, a student from Jyothinagar, complained that the authorities had failed to construct houses under JNNURM and other schemes, after demolishing the dwellings in her locality.

More than 75 slum dwellers from across the city had registered for the Adalat.

MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadeesha, MUDA Commissioner P.S. Kantharaj, Slum Development Board EE B.M. Kapani Gowda, AEEs Tejashri and Mahadevu and other officials were present.

Former Mayor Narayana, DSS office-bearers Ningaraj Malladi and K. Nanjappa, too were among those who attended the Adalat.
