The Mysuru outing turned out to be a double delight for the unseeded lanky Tamil Nadu lad Suresh Dakshineswar, who clinched the coveted men’s Singles and Doubles titles, and with that completed a fine double on the concluding day of the Mysuru Open Rs.1 lakh Men’s Tennis Tournament conducted jointly by Orange Sportz and Mysore Tennis Club (MTC) at their courts here on Friday.
TN’s Suresh Dakshineswar beat second-seeded Jatin Dahiya (Del) in a keenly contested tie 6-7 (2), 6-4, 7-5 which lasted for nearly three hours. The first set a see-saw battle for supremacy in which Jatin Dahiya capitalised on his rival’s errors in the tie-breaker to take the first set.
The second set saw Suresh regain his confidence and serving well, played some excellent passing shots amidst long rallies and took the advantage to wrap up the second set at 6-4.
The final set was evenly contested with both the players level at 5-5, but Suresh got the most important break of serve in the eleventh game with two winners on both the flanks to serve out the match in the twelfth game to take the set at 7-5.
The winner in the Men’s Singles event Suresh Dakshineswar, took home a cash prize of Rs.13,000 and a memento, while runner-up Jatin Dahiya received a cash prize of Rs.9,000 and a memento. Prizes were given by Alagappan, President, Mysore Tennis Club and Ravishankar of Orange Sportz. Prahalad Cheluve Urs (Kaivalya Fuels Injection), Rajaram (Gayathri Talkies) gave away the prizes to the men’s Singles runner-up.
Surachitha Sanjay of Sharadha Cycles gave away the prize money to the doubles winner.
