Mysuru:  A two-day programme titled ‘Students Cultural Movement’  was organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) at the Convocation Hall of KSOU here recently.

Speaking as the chief guest during the inaugural, KSOU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shivalingaiah said that KSOU has come forward to adopt the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in its curriculum and also provide marks for extra-curricular activities to encourage talents in students.

Inaugurating the programme, theatre artiste Babu Hirannaiah observed that people across the nation vociferously condemn terrorist attack (referring to the attack in Jammu and Kashmir recently) and the nation slowly slumps to silence which should not happen.

Quoting an incident in Japan when Swami Vivekananda was returning after delivering a speech, Babu Hirannaiah said: “The organisers of the programme in Japan asked a 15-year-old boy to fetch two bananas for the Swami from a nearby shop but the boy returned with the bananas after a very long time. Curiously, the Swami asked the boy the reason for the inordinate delay. The young boy replied that the day being a general holiday, all the shops were closed which the organisers were not aware of. The boy added that he could get the fruit after searching here and there but pleaded not to ridicule Japan for not getting just two bananas when the Monk wanted to offer a present to the boy. The Swamiji, impressed by the patriotism of the young boy, wanted that to be seen among Indian youth.”

ABVP National Joint Organising Secretary K.N. Raghunandan opined that the stereo-typed education system should change in the county.

Cauvery Hospital Chief Dr. G.R. Chandrashekar, ABVP National Vice-President Dr. B. Vasanath Kumar, State President Dr. Allamaprabhu, Secretary Harsha Narayan and others were present.

Hundreds of students from across the State participated in the event and prizes were awarded to the best performers.
