Industry employees present skit on workplace safety

Mysuru:  Various factory employees demonstrated skits to sensitise factory workers on hazards caused in industries and various industrial safety measures to be taken at the programme organised by Department of Factories and Boilers, Industrial Safety and Health at Institution of Engineers-India (IEI) premises on JLB Road in city recently.

The Department had organised this programme with main intention to educate the employees on taking safety measures as part of reducing the hazards at their working places.

Over half a dozen of teams, representing various factories across Mysuru and its surroundings, performed skits on the occasion. Each team comprised six to seven members.

They sensitised the audience on various safety issues including compensation, payments, medical expenses and legal services given by the factory management and safety measures, investigation conducted by the Department of Factories after the tragedy.

Through the skit programme, they also created awareness on how to use the equipment, machines and tools properly, wearing safety equipment (PPE), how to prevent slips and trips, keeping work areas and emergency exits clear, measures to be taken to avert fire accidents, wearing helmets and glouses.

They also sensitised the employees to avoid using mobile phones at working places,  switching the power off while repairing the damaged machines, using safety equipment such as insulated tools, rubber gloves etc., whenever required.

They also highlighted the employees on the measures to handle industrial machinery, large amounts of mechanical equipment, devices that operate under high voltage, radiation and hazardous materials.

They also focused on wearing personal protective equipment to protect a person’s eyes, face, ears, head, respiratory system, and other parts their body.

Deputy Director of Factories and Boilers H.S. Narendrababu, Assistant Director Suresh, Nanjangud Industries Association Vice-President Chandrashekhar and others were present during the programme.
