Kannada Action Committee stand on English medium opposed

March 29, 2019

Mysuru: The stand of Kannada Action Committee (Kannada Kriya Samithi) to oppose the move of State Government to introduce English medium section in 1,000 Government Schools should be taken back, urged Dalit Sangarsha Samithi (DSS) District Convenor Choranahalli Shivanna.

Addressing a press conference at Patrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, he said that in the present competitive world learning of English has gained primary importance. To shape one’s life English language has become inevitable. However, only those who are economically empowered till now are studying in English medium and reaping all the benefits.

It is sad to note that the poor, middle class and Dalit community children are forced to study in Kannada medium and thus have remained backward in all areas. Hence, the move of the State Government to start English medium sections in Government Schools is a step in the right direction and it must be welcomed. However, the Kannada Action Committee leaders have held meetings recently opposing this step of the Government. This is condemnable, he said and added that they should review their decision.

Realising that learning of English is very important many rural folks are migrating to urban areas to put their wards in English medium schools and their number is increasing. But those who are opposing this must release a list revealing in which schools their children are studying. And, if their stand is that there should only be Kannada medium schools everywhere, then a rule must be made that those who study in such schools will be provided with a Government job compulsorily, urged Shivanna.

K.V. Devendra Mahadevaiah, Uma Mahadev, Moodalli Mahadeva, T.M. Govindaraju and Kallahalli Kumar were present at the press meet.
