Mysuru: TB will not be cured unless one takes a full course of treatment, said District Vector Borne Diseases Control Officer Dr. Chidambara.

He was speaking on the occasion of ‘World TB Day’ jointly organised by District Administration, District Health and Family Welfare Department, District TB Control Centre, JSS Hospital and Apollo Hospital at the JSS Rajendra Bhavan here on Mar. 27 and said that the treatment to cure TB will take a longer time.

It is due to the indifferent attitude towards TB that its incidences have not come down in the country. Hence, one should not stop the treatment feeling that one has been cured but continue with the treatment till it is completely cured, he said.

TB Control Officer Dr. P.V. Ravi, District Surgeon Dr. Pashupathi, JSS Hospital Dean and Director Dr. Col. M. Dayanand, PKTB and CD Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Virupaksha, District Health Education Officer Prakash and others were present.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that India should be TB-free by 2025. In this direction, steps are being taken everywhere to control TB and in Mysuru also this effort  is going on,” said Prof. P.V. Nanjaraj, Dean and Director, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute.

“Earlier if one was afflicted with TB it was like a death sentence. Now, the situation has changed. With treatment one can resume normal life. Awareness needs to be created among patients and even they should be self-motivated, only then can TB be completely cured,” opined Dr. R. Venkatesh, District Health Officer (DHO).
