Recalling cherished memories of Quit India

August 9, 2019

Mysuru:  “The elected representatives of today, who have no knowledge of the sacrifices that people did during the freedom struggle of the country, treat freedom fighters like caged parrots by offering them crumbs whenever the old freedom fighters demanded something,” regretted Mysore City and District Freedom Fighters Association President Dr. M.G. Krishnamurthy.

He was speaking after hoisting the National Flag and offering floral tributes to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi to mark the Quit India Movement at the Freedom Fighters Park in Subbarayanakere here this morning.

He recalled the time of the Quit India Movement and how many in Mysuru were involved in this fight for freedom.

Recalling how the association was formed in the year 1985 when there were 350 freedom fighters, he said that only 30 of them were left now, out of which only eight or ten were active and the rest are confined to their beds.

Association Vice-President Y.K. Revanna said that today’s politicians were corrupt and they had no knowledge about the freedom movement.

While the freedom fighters went to jail for country’s independence, the politicians were now going to jail for corrupt practises, he added.

He also lauded the move of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for revoking Article 370 which was there since the country gained independence.

Secretary Prof. Ashwathanarayan, T. Venkatachalaiah, T. Puttanna, P.Y. Venkatadri, Lingaiah and others were present.
