Mysuru: Nearly 75 percent of the land in the world including 30 percent in India are slowly turning into deserts, said Tumkur Science Centre Scientist C. Yathiraju, expressing his concern.

He was delivering a special lecture on ‘Global Warming’ at ‘K.P. Poornachandra Tejaswi – Hakki-Pukka’ programme organised by Abhiruchi Prakashana at Mini Theatre in Kalamandira here yesterday.

In the light of global warming, nearly 9.4 million acres of land in the world is slowly turning into deserts. The whole world is suffering from global warming. Hence, drought and floods are occurring together, he explained.

Due to human greed, the world’s biggest Amazon Forest has caught fire. Because of this, the temperature of the world is going to increase further. Only when everyone joins hands to protect the environment will there be a possibility of finding solution to economic and farmers issues, he said.
