National seminar on Reforms in Banking Finance and Insurance Sectors

Mysuru/Mysore: The Commerce and Management Department of Vidyavardhaka First Grade College, in association with its IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) is organising a two-day National seminar on ‘Reforms in Banking, Finance and Insurance Sectors: Issues and Challenges,’ on Feb. 14 and 15 at its premises on Seshadri Iyer Road in city. 

Dr. M. Ramachandra Gowda, Vice-Chancellor, Rani Chennamma University, Belagavi, will inaugurate the seminar tomorrow at 9.30 am. N. Nithyananda, M.C. Member – Professional Sector, Chairman – Direct Taxes & Corporate Laws Committee, will deliver the keynote address.

The seminar will focus on mergers and acquisitions of banks, net banking and green banking operations, customer relationship management in banking, technological advancement in banking, social banking systems and issues and future challenges of banks. 

The discussion will be held on Financial issues like the innovation made in financial markets, International financial reforms, changes made in entrepreneurial finance, role of financial institutions in promoting various schemes of finance etc. 

The Insurance sector seminar will have discussions on  new Government insurance schemes, strategies followed in marketing insurance, perceptions of policy holders, rural insurance service and recent trends in insurance. The seminar will be held in four technical sessions over two days. 

Feb. 14 (11.15 am to 1 pm): Session on “Development in Accounting and Finance: A paradigm shift due to technological changes,” with A.U. Prakash, Chartered Accountant as the Resource Person and Dr. N. Nagaraja, Chairman, DoS in Commerce, University of Mysore (UoM), as Chairperson. 

2 pm to 3.30 pm: Session on “Banking in the Digital Era: Issues and Challenges,” with Veerabhadrappa, former Senior Vice-President. Axis Bank, Bengaluru, as Resource Person and R.M. Chidambaram, former Professor & Dean, Faculty of Management, Alagappa University, Tamil Nadu, in the Chair.

3.45 pm: Paper presentation on ‘Banking’ which will be chaired by Dr. S. Manju, Associate Professor of Commerce, PG Centre, Maharani’s Commerce and Management College, Mysuru and Co-chaired by Dr. M. Bhavani, Associate Professor & HoD of Commerce, Pooja Bhagavath Memorial  PG Centre. 

Feb. 15 (10 am to 11.30 am): Session on “Innovations in Insurance for Social and Economic Development” with C. Ramasamy, former Senior Manager, LIC, Coimbatore, as Resource Person and Dr. Aisha M. Sheriff, Chairperson, B.N. Bahaddur Institute of Management Science, UoM, in the Chair.  This will be followed by panel discussion on various seminar topics. Banking: Ramesh Sharma, Chief Manager, Canara Bank, Mysuru; Finance: Dr. R.S. Mani, Former Professor of Management, VIT University, Vellore; Insurance: S.N. Prasad, Insurance Advisor, SBI Life Insurance & Star Health Insurance, Mandya. Dr. H.K. Sathisha, PG Department, Govt. R.C. College of Commerce and Management, Bengaluru, will moderate. 

2.30 pm: Parallel sessions on Finance and Insurance will be hosted in Satellite Seminar Rooms which will be chaired by Dr. R. Mahesh, Professor, B.N. Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences, UoM and Co-Chaired by Dr. Vasanthi Reena Williams, HoD of Commerce, Vidyavikas PG Centre, Mysuru. For Insurance paper presentation, session will be chaired by R. Chinthamani, former Professor of Commerce, JSS College of Arts, Commerce & Science and Co-Chaired by Dr. S. Ashwini, HoD of Commerce, Vidyavardhaka First Grade College, according to a press release from College Principal Dr. S. Mari Gowda.
