Gold chains snatched in city

August 17, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate incidents, bike-borne miscreants have snatched gold chains from women at J.P. Nagar and Srirampura in city.

In the first incident, a woman, who was standing in front of her house lost a part of her gold chain when bike-borne miscreants snatched the same on Wednesday.

The woman, who lost a part of her gold chain, is Pramila Devi, a resident of ‘D’ Block, 18th Main Road in J.P. Nagar.

Pramila Devi was standing in front of her house, when two persons on a bike, snatched her gold chain. As Pramila held on to her gold chain, the miscreants managed to snatch a part of the gold chain weighing about 25 grams and sped away, according to Police.

A case has been registered at Vidyaranyapuram Police Station.

In the second incident, bike-borne miscreants in the guise of seeking an address, have snatched a gold chain from a 56-year-old woman at Srirampura 2nd Stage on Thursday.

The woman, who lost her chain, is Nagalakshmi, wife of H.N. Subbaiah and a resident of 7th Cross, near Bhramarambha Kalyana Mantap in Srirampura 2nd Stage.

Nagalakshmi was talking with her neighbour on Thursday afternoon, when two unidentified persons wearing masks and helmet came on a black colour Bajaj Pulsar bike near the house. The pillion rider, who got down from the bike, approached Nagalakshmi and asked her the address of a carpenter. As Nagalakshmi did not know the address, she turned towards her neighbour to ask her and the unidentified person snatched her 45 grams gold chain and sped away on the waiting bike.

Shocked over the incident, Nagalakshmi began to scream which attracted passersby. As Nagalakshmi was unable to tell them about the incident as she was in a state of shock, passersby thought that she was unwell and slowly came towards her. The chain snatchers had sped away by then.

Kuvempunagar Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rangaswamy and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar.

Police said that if Nagalakshmi had narrated the incident to passersby who had gathered when she screamed, somebody would have tried to chase the miscreants or at least would have noted the registration number of the bike.

Kuvempunagar Police, who have registered a case, are collecting CCTV footages from the cameras installed on the road and surrounding places and are keeping vigil over riders on Pulsar bikes in city.
