Jeevan Pramaan: Pensioner’s woes

November 18, 2020

Sir,

I am a retired teacher from a private school. I have been drawing my pension since 2008.

As it is mandated, I had gone to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Office at Nazarbad to confirm my Jeevan Pramaan Account.

At the gate of the said office, from behind locked gates, an official directed me to an agency called Narmada Solutions where he said I can confirm the Jeevan Pramaan Number after submitting my Aadhaar Card for verification. Thus being directed elsewhere was a shock to me as until last year I had got confirmation from the same EPF Office.

There was another shock awaiting me when I reached the Narmada Solutions Office which is very unfriendly to senior citizens as one had to go down a flight of very narrow steps which were blocked by many vehicles.

This place was teeming with people — senior citizens and their escorts — both inside (a space of barely 20 by 20 feet) and outside. There was no adherence to COVID-19 rules, people were jostling cheek by jowl including the staff of the said agency.

We were also required to pay a service charge of Rs.30 whereas at PF Office we do not have to pay any amount for Jeevan Pramaan service.

I decided not to endanger myself to the possibility of infections and hence came away without submitting my Aadhaar Card for Jeevan Pramaan.
I request the authorities concerned to look into this and take necessary action to help senior citizens.

NOTE: Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has partnered with Common Service Centres (CSCs) to provide to submit Digital Jeevan Pramaan. Pensioners can select the service delivery agency as per their convenience or instead submit Aadhaar-based Biometric Digital Life Certificate (DLC) at Banks, nearest Post Offices or by using Doorstep Banking Services by PSB. Pensioners need to carry their Mobile, Bank Pass Book, Pension Payment Order Number and Aadhaar number.
