Cops nab accused former security guard within 24 hours, recover gold jewellery and cash

Mysore/Mysuru: Beechanahalli Police have arrested a former security guard of a resort within 24 hours of him committing the crime and have recovered Rs. 20,000 cash and gold jewellery worth Rs. 5 lakh from him. The accused had stolen the cash and gold jewellery of a tourist, who had stayed in the resort.

The theft had taken place at Red Earth Resort located near Badanakuppe village, coming under Beechanahalli Police limits in H.D. Kote taluk. The arrested is 35-year-old Jayaraju of Badanakuppe village, a former security guard of the resort.

A couple from Bengaluru along with their son had come to the resort and had stayed there. On Nov. 21 night, the three went to the dining hall at the resort for dinner and when they returned back to their room, they found their cash and gold jewellery kept in the bag missing and brought the theft to the notice of the resort Manager and lodged a Police complaint on Nov. 22. 

Beechanahalli Police, who had registered a case, took up the investigation immediately and finally arrested the accused near Handpost Bar yesterday.

In the complaint lodged by the Bengaluru couple, they had stated that Rs. 60,000 cash, a diamond pendant gold chain, earrings, bracelet and a laptop, all worth Rs. 2.84 lakh, were stolen, but the Police have recovered gold jewellery worth about Rs. 5 lakh from the accused.

Reacting to this, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shivakumar said that the owners of the gold jewellery, which was stolen at the resort, have identified their gold jewellery and added that interrogation is going on pertaining to the additional jewellery which has been recovered from the accused.

Meanwhile, Police Officials said that the accused who was earlier working as a security guard at the resort knew about the facilities at the resort very well, which helped him to commit the crime.

They further said that the Bengaluru couple had stated that they had locked the door before leaving to the dining hall for dinner and added that it is to be known whether the accused had used a duplicate key to enter the room and steal the cash and gold jewellery or whether any staff of the resort had committed the theft and handed over the booty to Jayaraju.

Investigation is going on in various angles, Police officials said and added that CCTV footages have been examined.

ASP Shivakumar and Hunsur Division Dy.SP K.S. Sundaraj supervised H.D. Kote Circle Inspector Puttaswamy, Beechanahalli Sub-Inspector Ramachandranayak and staff Revanna, B.S. Ravi, Nagegowda, Suresh and H.M. Mahadevashetty in the nabbing and recovery operation.
