Activity as part of Crime Prevention Month

Mysore/Mysuru: The Narasimharaja Sub-Division of City Police conducted an identity parade of people (property thieves) who were involved in crimes in different areas. The parade was conducted yesterday at the open space in the Mysore Central Jail premises as part of Crime Prevention Month that is observed in December.

The aim of conducting the identity parade was to keep officials of all the Police Stations abreast with the background of the history-sheeters and at the same time warned history-sheeters of punitive action in case they continue with crime. 

These people were involved in theft cases in V.V. Puram, Jayalakshmipuram, Vijayanagar, Hebbal and Metagalli and were from by Narasimharaja and Mandi Mohalla Police limits. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) M.S. Geetha Prasanna warned the criminals that henceforth they must not be a part of thefts, robberies, dacoities and any such crimes. 

She told them that already several cases were lodged against them and they will be dealt with an iron fist in case they repeat any offences or directly or indirectly support any crime. She also warned that the jurisdictional Police were tracking all their movements and activities. 

Narasimharaja Sub-Division ACP Shivashankar told them that it was not possible to be rich after committing thefts and burglaries. 

“The long arm of law will catch up sooner or later. But once you enter the profession, the brand name of a ‘thief’ or ‘burglar’ will haunt you till death and even your family members have to live with the blemish,” he said. 

Mentioning that simple thefts would normally lead to bigger crimes like murder, the ACP narrated the incident that occurred in 2016 in Metagalli Police limits where three persons snatched the mobile phone worth  Rs. 5,000 from a passer-by. 

“During the theft, the trio killed the victim and the three persons have been convicted and jailed for life,” he said. 

Metagalli Inspector A. Mallesh administered the paraded persons an oath where they swore that they will not indulge in any criminal activities or in any activities that violate the law, directly or indirectly and become good citizens.
