Mysuru: The ambitious work on Inland Container Depot (ICD) for Railways at Kadakola near Nanjangud by Container Corporation of India (CONCOR)  will spur industrial activity both in and around Mysuru. The project will be undertaken with stringent adherence to quality and as per the CONCOR standards, said Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha on Monday. 

He was speaking to reporters after inspecting the work at the Multi Modal Logistic Park (MMLP) which is coming up at Kadakola near Nanjangud in 61 acres of land. 

The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) had acquired 55 acres of land for the project and six more acres have been added taking the total project acreage to 61. 

“The project will be completed in two years and works are on in full swing. After completion, the project will cut transportation costs, boost merchandise activities and give thrust to industrial development in the region. The ICD in Kadakola will boost industrial activity in the entire region and it is more conveniently located than the one at Whitefield in Bengaluru for exporters from Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu Districts,” Simha said. 

The cost of the entire project, which includes two railway sidings and a 10,000 square feet warehouse, is Rs. 100 crore. The double track with electrification between Bengaluru and Mysuru will help transport container shipment from                                                                      ICD in Mysuru to different locations including ports in Mangaluru and other coastal belts, the MP added. 

The MMLP will have a cold storage unit, state-of-the-art first-of-its-kind in Karnataka warehouses, two Railway lines — loading line and engine escape line, facility for Customs clearances for export and import cargo, hi-tech signalling and telecommunication units, CC Block Pavement, administrative block, connecting roads and drainages, pump house, rainwater harvesting units and a host of other features needed for shipping and receiving goods, Simha explained. 

Arrangements to transport goods to major ports and cities would be made and the goods would be delivered through door-to-door system as there is rail connectivity to almost all major cities, towns and ports including Mangalore Port and Chennai Port, he said. Also, measures will be taken and facilities will be made to transport industrial materials through cargo flights from Mysore Airport at Mandakalli, he revealed. 

“While raw materials can be delivered directly to the doorsteps of industries, facilities will be made to export finished goods from industries to other places with the adoption of advanced technologies. Till now, to obtain Customs clearance, industrialists had to go to ports. After the ICD is ready, all the Customs formalities will be done at the Kadakola depot itself and a separate office of Customs is being set up,” the MP added.
