Grievance regarding CESC Smart Meters

June 4, 2021

Sir,

It is since Jan. 2021, CESC Mysuru is trying to implement Smart Meters. In our building there are two connections, hence two electricity meters and they have chosen to make one as smart and other as non-smart !

It is now 4 years-plus, we have been paying all our bills online including CESC bills. Our area billing cycle is: bill date 3rd of every month, last pay date is 17th of every month.

Now the problem is with smart meters. This cycle is never achieved. Every time I have to go to their office and request them to upload the bill to CESC website, to enable me to pay the bill. This requires two to three visits every time, due to various reasons. If follow up is not taken no one bothers to upload the bill to the website in time.

For the last two months I intentionally did not follow up, as I wanted to see what action CESC will take. It was observed that the bill was uploaded in the first three days of the next month and they charged a late payment penalty !

Since Jan. 2021, I have met EE one time, AO 5 times, AE 6 times, AEE number of times. I would have visited their office at least 25 to 30 times till date. But no action at all. Even now as I am writing this mail to you this bill is not uploaded yet.

I am a retired senior citizen and I have two more super-senior citizens at home. Do you think I should be going to the CESC office again and again and the problem is not resolved for the last 5 months?

Non-smart meter is working fine but the smart meter is not. Will the CESC ever set this right?
